A wonderfully sculptural early 20th century oak low chair in the Arts & Crafts tradition, full of character and decorative charm.

The tall shaped back board features two circular piercings — a classic Arts & Crafts design detail — while the solid oak construction and warm natural grain reflect the movement’s emphasis on honest materials and craftsmanship.

The chair has a striking silhouette with its narrow seat and beautifully proportioned high back, giving it real presence despite its compact footprint. The gently shaped cabriole legs add a subtle elegance that softens the strong architectural lines of the back.

Originally made in the form of a spinning or low cottage chair, the seat height is significantly lower than a standard chair. Pieces like this were traditionally used beside spinning wheels or as occasional seating in country interiors. Today they work beautifully as decorative accent chairs in hallways, bedrooms, inglenooks or styled interiors.

The oak has been carefully cleaned and polished in the Roosters Furniture workshop, bringing out the depth and warmth of the grain.

A charming and unusual piece that sits somewhere between functional furniture and sculptural decorative object — exactly the kind of item that adds personality to a room.
