This elegant Captain’s Chest is part of the iconic Stag Minstrel range, designed in the 1970s by John and Sylvia Reid. Inspired by Scandinavian design, the Minstrel collection helped pioneer British mid-century modern furniture and is now enjoying a well-deserved resurgence in popularity. Known for its clean lines, practicality, and robust construction, Minstrel furniture was built to last.

This listing is for an eight-drawer Captain’s Chest of drawers. We hold a large stock of original, unpainted (“naked”) Stag Minstrel pieces, allowing us to create coordinating or fully bespoke matching furniture to suit your space. Please message us for further details or custom requests (lead time 2–3 weeks).

With generous storage and a long, low profile, this piece is particularly well suited to loft conversions or placement beneath windows, while also working beautifully in bedrooms or living spaces.
All of our painted vintage furniture is carefully prepared in our Roosters Furniture workshop. Each piece is fully inspected, sympathetically repaired where required, and the drawers adjusted to ensure smooth operation. The furniture is then cleaned, sanded, primed, and professionally finished using premium products for a durable, long-lasting result.

Finished in After Midnight by Benjamin Moore, a deep, near-black navy with cool undertones. Rich, dramatic, and sophisticated, this colour reads almost black in low light and reveals its navy depth as the light changes, making it an elegant and timeless choice.

The chest has been fitted with new copper cup handles, adding warmth and contrast against the dark finish and enhancing the piece’s character with a subtle industrial edge.
