A wonderfully unusual pair of early 20th century prayer chairs, sometimes referred to as chapel or oratory chairs.

These distinctive chairs feature a tall upright back rail and a low seat, a design traditionally used for kneeling prayer — allowing the user to rest their arms on the top rail while kneeling at the seat. Today they make striking decorative pieces and work beautifully as hallway chairs, bedroom chairs or sculptural accent pieces.

Crafted in solid wood with simple honest joinery, they have a lovely warm tone and attractive grain to the seats. The design is understated and almost modernist in its simplicity, giving them a surprisingly contemporary feel despite their age.

A great example of early 20th century functional design — unusual pieces that add character and conversation to any interior.

The chairs have been cleaned and polished in the Roosters Furniture workshop and are ready to use.

Condition
Good vintage condition. Structurally sound with solid joints.
Age related marks and wear to the seats consistent with age and use which only adds to their character.
